Thomas L.H. Giacchini
Thomas L.H. Giacchini, 81, died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at his residence under the care of Islands Hospice.
Thomas was a design engineer and worked at G.E. Research and Development in Schenectady, New York until his retirement in 1985. He remained in Schenectady until 1993 when he relocated to Savannah to avoid the harsh northern winters and devote more time to golf, a game he was passionate about and could enjoy year round. Thomas always enjoyed Savannah, which he immediately referred to as home, where he and his wife Maria met many friends. He was a self taught leather carver and had many jurrored pieces on display at artisan locations. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was a fifty year member of the Edison Golf Club in Schenectady. He was also a member of St. James Catholic Church, Forest City Gun Club and the G E Apprentice Alumni. Thomas was a lifetime member of the Elks and was a former member of the Landings Golf Club. He was selected as hometown hero in Savannah for his expert craftsmanship in the design and construction of dollhouses for children with Leukemia in Backus Children's Hospital. Most importantly, Thomas will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always very generous and giving in his own quiet way.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Maria D. "Mary" Giacchini of Savannah; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Richard and Laura Giacchini of Richmond, Kentucky; one daughter and son-in-law, Adrienne and Clifford Hall of Glenville, New York and three grandchildren, Stefanie Giacchini, Richard Hall and Victoria Hall.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 6600 Abercorn Street, Suite 206, Savannah, GA 31405.

Mary & Adrienne - I don't have to tell you what an amazing guy Mr G was. He was a big teddy bear with a huge heart. Although it's difficult, right now, to see beyond your pain, your happy memories will comfort you as time goes by. You are very close in our thoughts and prayers.

I felt a kinship with Tom because of shared life experiences ... GE, living in Schenectady, sport shooting, our heritage and most importantly our love for Italian food. I will especially miss Tom's gentle, smiling face accross a dinner table.

Tom was one of the first people I worked with at GE Steam Turbine Drafting. I was my priveledge to sit next to him for about a year. He taught me about dignity, maturity and work ethic. He was kind, understanding and patient. It's been 40 years since then and I often think about his valuable 'lessons in life' as he would call them. God bless Tom, and may he rest in peace. My sincerest sympathy to his entire familly. Dave Caruso

Dear Mary,Tommy and Laura, Your dear husband and father was my strong partner and wise advisor when he and I were Vice-President and President, respectively, of The Edison Club. We also shared so many fun times as golf partners there. He was certainly a man among men,and a voice of calm when it was greatly needed and most valued.I was fortunate to know him and call him my friend. God Bless you all. Bill Willig

I have many good memories of Tom. He was my sponsor when I was confirmed. For that reason, I took his name as my middle name because I didn't have one. Tom used to take me fishing. We went hunting together. He took me to his club to shoot trap. He'll be missed.
